MONTREAL — Montreal hopes to bring the Red Bull Air Race to the city in Aug. 2010 and is now in discussions with promoters to make it happen.
But a spokeswoman for Parc Jean Drapeau, where the event may be held, insists efforts to get it have nothing to do with the loss of the Formula One Grand Prix auto race last October.
Nathalie Lessard says discussions with the energy drink company, which organizes the high-speed aerial obstacle course, have been ongoing since March 2008.
The site for the hair-raising race would be over the St. Lawrence River near the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve race track.
This year, the international event will take place in six cities around the world, including Windsor, Ont., in June.
The race’s fifth season kicks off in Abu Dhabi on April 17.
