More charges for torture suspect?

The lawyer for a man charged in a gruesome case of alleged torture said his client could face new charges.

The lawyer for a man charged in a gruesome case of alleged torture said his client could face new charges.

Dustin Paxton, 30, is accused of the aggravated assault and forcible confinement of Dustin LaFortune, who was starved, burned, and had parts of his tongue and lips cut off before being dumped at a Regina hospital on April 16.

Paxton, who appeared briefly in Calgary court yesterday, is also charged with forcible confinement and aggravated assault involving a girl.

His lawyer, Jim Lutz, says Paxton may face another “group of charges” involving another victim when he appears in court on Thursday.

Paxton has been found fit to stand trial following a psychiatric exam and Lutz has asked for a trial by judge and jury.

Lutz says the public “isn’t stupid” and he’s confident going with a jury despite the publicity this case has generated across Canada.
