A baby in China has been returned to his mother even after she admitted to attacking him with a pair of scissors after he bit her during breastfeeding.
Eight-month-old Xioa Bao needed more than 100 stitches for wounds to his face and neck after his uncle found the infant in a pool of blood in the yard of their home. The mother, who lives in China’s eastern province of Jiangsu, reportedly admitted she used the pair of scissors to stab her baby more than 90 times.
According to the Daily Mail, the local government has returned the baby back to his mother because she has no history of mental illness. The woman also lives with two of Xiao Bao’s uncles, whom authorities say can serve as guardians.
This incident comes on the heels of similarly bizarre news out of China involving an infant. In May, emergency workers rescued a newborn who was lodged in a sewer pipe after he fell into a toilet. His mother told authorities she gave birth in the bathroom and he slipped from her hands into the toilet before she could grab him. The child was in relatively good health when he was rescued and eventually returned to his mother.
