Moving fundraiser for arthritis

Three people under the age of 30 in Kim McNeil’s life — including her brother — have been diagnosed with different forms of arthritis.

That, along with working alongside a medical professional studying arthritis pain, is what compelled the yoga instructor of five years to first take part in the Power of Movement arthritis awareness event last year.

“I know people in the prime of their lives who deal with this every day,” said McNeil.

McNeil was asked by the national committee, which were familiar with her story, to tackle the organization of a Calgary event this year.

So McNeil took up the cause, and is now looking for Calgarians’ support in a mass yoga event at 10 a.m. this Sunday at Cardel Place.

“Yoga is all about promoting wellness and well being,” she said, noting that yoga can help with stress, flexibility and strength, benefiting those suffering from arthritis.

Registration for the event and donations can be done online at powerofmovement.ca.

McNeil also said even if you can’t participate in the event, donations can still help the cause.

Donations will be going to the Arthritis Autoimmune Research Centre, (AARC).
