N.L. flights running now: Airport

Two flights were cancelled between Halifax and St. John’s early yesterday.

Halifax Stanfield International Airport spokeswoman Ashley Barnes said they weren’t given a specific reason from St. John’s as to why two flights were cancelled, but added everything was quickly back up and running by mid-morning.

“I can’t say even for sure if that was due to the volcanic ash, the weather or what,” Barnes said.

“We don’t get the exact reasons as to why … but the disruption was very minimal.”

St. John’s was reporting most delays from the Newfoundland and Labrador capital were due to heavy fog over the threat of volcanic ash from Iceland.

As well yesterday, Nova Scotia’s only daily flight to Europe from the Halifax airport to Heathrow Airport in London was cancelled again because of the volcanic ash.

Those flights have been grounded since Thursday and Barnes couldn’t specify when the flight would be back up and running.
