HALIFAX - A 14-year-old Nova Scotia boy is being treated for severe frostbite after he was found wandering in the streets without a coat or footwear in sub-zero temperatures today.

Halifax
police say they were called by a resident who initially thought the
boy, who was walking in the Dartmouth area, was a prowler.

As he awaited their arrival the caller realized it was a child, ill-prepared for the cold and wind chill.

Police
spokeswoman Theresa Rath says the man brought the child into his home
until officers and paramedics arrived a few minutes later.

Rath
says the boy was supposed to be staying at a friend's place for a
sleepover and it's not clear why he was wandering about in the cold.
