Nova Scotia and New Brunswick will “explore” the possibility of a second electrical transmission line between the two provinces.

The proposed line would pump 500-megawatts of energy between southern New Brunswick and Colchester County.

Premier Darrell Dexter, along with New Brunswick Premier Shawn Graham and the CEOs of both power utilities, announced the project at a press conference in Fredericton yesterday.

Dexter said that the second transmission line would mean construction jobs in the short term, as well as increased capacity and efficiency in the future — which, according to Dexter, will result in more affordable power for the province.

The project requires approval by both provinces’ utility review boards.
