New bridge excites cyclist

The Canada Line Pedestrian Bicycle Bridge linking Vancouver to Richmond opens tomorrow, and excitement is growing.

Arno Schortinghuis of the Vancouver Area Cycling Coalition said cyclists should enjoy a nice, quiet, relaxing ride over the bridge, as the other bridges linking the two cities are less convenient for bikers.

Schortinghuis called the Knight Street Bridge “dangerous” and said the Oak Street Bridge’s sidewalks are a bit narrow for cycling.

He added that the Arthur Lange Bridge is only for the very brave.

“This will make an excellent crossing because you don’t have the traffic noise and the pollution,” he said.
“I think it’s a great contribution to the regional cycling network.”

The opening ceremony is tomorrow at 1 p.m.
