New year, new auditor?

The city is on track to having a new city auditor in place in the new year, according to council members.

Ald. Gord Lowe, who sits on the audit committee, said that after months of going through the selection process, committee will receive a recommendation on Thursday.

“We have to have a city auditor — and the sooner the better, obviously,” he said.

Following issues with the previous city auditor, including allegations of fraud and confrontation with the city manager, Ald. Brian Pincott, chairman of the committee, said he doesn’t foresee council making any changes.

Pincott said the city is looking for someone that will execute the goals laid out for them.

“I think hiring a new city auditor is hiring the person that … we are recommending as being the best candidate to execute the mandate of our city auditor and execute an audit plan,” he said.

“At the end of the day we’re looking for a person who will deliver what we are looking for, which is, you know what, some pretty significant audits … It will be a relief to have a new city auditor in place.”
