New York Fashion Week Review: ERIN by Erin Fetherston

On the steamy third floor of the Standard Hotel, the fashion crowd fanned themselves while models grouped by similar-themed cocktail attire stood around like artwork being admired at a downtown gallery. There was plenty to fawn over, including a cool, cream, ’70s-esque suit, poppy orange ombre gown, playful cheetah print jumpsuit and pale pink ostrich feathered skirt — all less girly and more refined than Fetherston’s previous collection for her diffusion line. Then, the designer took the stage to introduce her muse, up-and-coming singer Alexandra McDermott. “She’s the star of my look book,” said Fetherston, “and I wanted her to be the star of this evening.” McDermott, wearing a dreamy dress with white bustier and sparkling gold skirt, certainly looked the part.

Q&A: Erin Fetherston

What keeps you sane during Fashion Week?

I do a short session of yoga each morning and make sure I get some quality time with my puppies!

Can you sum up your Spring collection in a Tweet (140 characters or fewer)?

Femininity with an edge.

What will be your fall staple?

The rose brocade parka from my fall collection and a pair of dark wash skinny jeans.

What’s the most embarrassing item in your closet?

I get a little too attached to shoes and often wear them longer than I should. I’ve got a pair of pink ballerina flats that are screaming out for retirement.
