Petition disputes Iranian election

A local group of Iranian-Canadians and their supporters unveiled a green cloth scroll petition, approximately 60-metres in length, with well over 4,000 signatures in front of the Vancouver Art Gallery yesterday.

The scroll is part of a continued effort to dispute the legitimacy of Iran’s recent election.

Iranians around the world are collecting signatures for a petition that states, “(Mahmoud) Ahmadinejad is not Iran’s president.”

Green was the colour used by Ahmadinejad’s rival presidental candidate Mir-Hossein Mousavi.

In addition to supporting the fight for freedom in Iran, the petition could make the Guinness Book of Records — pending approval — as the world’s longest petition, with scrolls from more than 185 cities being brought to Paris to be sewn together.

The combined scroll will be hung from the Eiffel Tower on July 26 — Amandinejad’s inauguration.
