The Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography yesterday offered a preview of Angela Grauerholz: The Inexhaustible Image, an exhibition of the Montreal photographer’s explorations of time and memory, opening tomorrow at the National Gallery of Canada.
The collection features 40 works from Grauerholz’s 25-year career, going back to her early dream-like portraits.
“The portraits are really the first body of work that taught me something very particular about the interaction between images, the interaction of the spectator with an image, and I have taken all that understanding and continued to develop whatever my practice has become,” Grauerholz said. “So over the last 25 years, I really essentially started to fine-tune these basic ideas.”
In addition to framed photographs, the exhibition includes film, a cabinet with prints on sliding screens and a specially built reading room. Part of the exhibition is also online and interactive at atworkandplay.com.
