Gruesome photos showing the bloody crime scene where South African model Reeva Steenkamp was shot and killed have surfaced online.
The images were first published by Sky News and then posted on South African news site Eye Witness News. A trail of blood is scene in the bathroom where Steenkamp was shot several times inside the home of her boyfriend and Olympic and Paralympic athlete Oscar Pistorius on February 14.
Pistorius told police he shot Steenkamp through the door of the bathroom after mistaking her for an intruder, but the world-famous ‘blade runner’ who is known for competing with prosthetic legs, has been charged with premeditated murder.
He is currently free on bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 4.
South African officials told Eye Witness News that the leak of the photos online will not jeopardize the case and the investigation continues to be on track. South African police have come under fire for their initial handling of the investigation of the crime scene after Steenkamp’s death.
