Kudos to the many people in the Lower Mainland who are leaving their cars at home, and taking public transit.
We need to keep that up because the rolling closures continue today with the torch relay hitting the Tri-cities and Burnaby.
In Vancouver, traffic continues to be slow moving along the alternate routes to the closed Georgia and Dunsmuir viaducts. Pender, Hastings and Main streets remain the hardest hit.
On the flip side, major routes like the Port Mann, Alex Fraser and Pattullo Bridges are extremely light during the rush hours. At one point during Breakfast Television we were all convinced that it must be a Sunday. So, at least there is some good that comes with the bad.
Today, we also see restrictions go into place on the Sea-to-Sky Highway with permit-only travel between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Tomorrow is a big day as the pedestrian corridors will be installed in downtown Vancouver.
Also tomorrow, the Cambie Street Bridge is scheduled for another closure, this one from noon until midnight. This is for the opening ceremonies, which are expected to attract massive crowds.
Vancouver has never seen anything like this before, so allowing yourself a lot of extra time and planning ahead is key.
