Police ID East Uniacke murder victim

The victim of a homicide in East Uniacke was identified yesterday.

Dillon Blair Jewett, 18, was from Dartmouth. His body was found by all-terrain vehicle riders on a trail near the East Uniacke Quarry Sunday afternoon.

Police used fingerprints to identify him, said RCMP spokeswoman Sgt. Brigdit Leger.

An autopsy was performed Tuesday and it confirmed a weapon was used.

“Information gathered during the course of the investigation has confirmed that a firearm was used in this death,” she said.

However, she wouldn’t confirm what type of firearm was used or what caliber.

She said she also couldn’t disclose how many times Jewett was shot.

“I know there are numerous investigational leads they are pursuing and wherever any tips or leads bring us, we’ll follow through until they’re completely exhausted,” she said.

Leger said she didn’t know anything about the victim and the Privacy Act prevents her from indicating whether or not he was known to police.

But court records show Jewett was in court May 20 to be sentenced for theft under $5,000.
