Police release stabbing suspects

Three men taken in for questioning following the city’s 16th homicide of the year have been released from police custody.

Just after 3:30 a.m. Saturday a fight broke out between two groups of men at the Little Beijing Restaurant on Centre Street and ended with one man dead and another in serious condition, according to duty Insp. Dave Wood.

Witnesses described a vehicle fleeing the bloody scene, and police pulled the vehicle over in Beddington and took the three men into custody.

“At the time those men were considered suspects, the vehicle was possibly related, but as it turns out they have been released,” Wood said, adding he couldn’t comment much further.

When police arrived on scene they found two men with stab wounds, one in the stomach who died on scene.

Area business owners weren’t surprised about the murder, saying the area is a haven for drunkenness.
“I’ve had problems around here, with drunk people throwing up and staying out late and being loud and breaking things,” she said, wishing to remain anonymous.
