Police show video of ’06 stabbing

The video opens with a close-up of Reon Paul’s body, his shirt lifted above his waist, legs unnaturally straightened and blood on the ground.

The video, released yesterday by police, is not the typical surveillance footage of criminals caught in the act. It is a graphic snapshot of the chaos that erupted in a North York parking lot just seconds after the 22-year-old George Brown College culinary student was stabbed in the chest during a 2006 World Cup of Soccer party to celebrate Ghana’s win over the United States.

Raw footage, such as this, has become a powerful tool in criminal investigations and one that has changed the way detectives approach their work. Homicide investigators are hoping this short video will jog memories and re-ignite interest in the unsolved case.
