Pot, brass knuckles seized at Dartmouth traffic stop

Police seized a small amount of marijuana and a prohibited weapon in a late-night traffic stop in Dartmouth on Tuesday.

RCMP conducted a routine checkpoint on Cole Harbour Road late Tuesday evening. Just after 11:30 p.m., police noticed a green Honda Civic travelling westbound, which turned onto Bissett Road, seemingly in attempt to avoid the checkpoint.

Police pursued and pulled over the vehicle on Bisset Road. Officers allege when they approached the vehicle, they smelled marijuana.

Police say a subsequent search of the vehicle netted four grams of marijuana, as well as a set of brass knuckles under the driver’s seat.

Keith Martell, 19, of Beaver Bank, has been charged with possession of a prohibited weapon, as well as failure to comply with conditions of a recognizance.

Martell was released on conditions last week after being pulled over in Spryfield early Wednesday morning.

Halifax Regional Police say they found two prohibited weapons — a can of bear spray and a Taser made to look like a cell- phone — in the vehicle Martell was driving.
