Prabal Gurung kitchen-sinked it — for good reason, though. Inspired by his native Nepal — the snow-capped Himalayas, the “lush hillsides dotted with wild roses and rhododendrons”— the designer threw in every beautiful detail he could get his hand on.

Shimmering beads, ostrich feathers, intricate hand-painted lace and cascading ruffles all made appearances. Yet look past the melange of embellishments and another theme jumps out: the tango between the sporty and the feminine.

Black-leather strips toughened up breezy, printed dresses; sinuous shawl-like lapels softened sharp tuxedo jackets; and the finale of chiffon evening gowns had athletic tank bodices. Visual overload? Yes. But street-style stars need something to peacock in.
