AMSTERDAM, Netherlands - A prominent Dutch psychologist who once claimed to have shown that thinking about eating meat makes people behave more selfishly has been found to have faked data throughout his career.
In one of the worst cases of scientific fraud on record in the Netherlands, a review panel has found that Prof. Diederik Stapel systematically falsified data to achieve the result he wanted.
Stapel admitted in a statement that the accusations were true and apologized.
His career spans two decades and included a paper published this year in Science that said white people are more prone to discrimination against black people in a messy environment.
The University of Tilburg has filed fraud charges against Stapel. A spokesman was not available for comment Thursday.
