Suno, the upbeat, socially responsible clothing line by Max Osterweis and Erin Beatty, gets better and better — and more and more beloved with each season.

Suno, the upbeat, socially responsible clothing line by Max Osterweis and Erin Beatty, gets better and better — and more and more beloved with each season. We caught up with the two designers during their runway presentation.

What inspired your fall collection?

Max: Older, elegant and eccentric women like Iris Apfel, who have collected all of these things from their travels all over the world.
Erin: It’s about the mixing of all of these things that they collected and how they choose to portray themselves. We were thinking a lot about how to interpret that.

You started out by producing your clothing in Kenya, but your clothing line has grown a lot, fast. Are you still able to do as much work there?

Max: It’s getting harder, because the factories are small and the demands are growing, but I'd say about 70 percent of our work is manufactured there. Our prints and textiles are produced all over the world. Some of the beading and embellishments were done in India and Peru.

You’ve had a busy week preparing for the show. What keeps you sane?

Erin
: Lots of coffee [laughs].

How many cups have you had today?

Erin: Well, today I’m going on pure adrenaline, but I did have a Bloody Mary.
