Rainmen re-sign pair of all-stars

The Halifax Rainmen have laid the groundwork for their 2011 starting lineup.

Although neither move was a huge surprise, the Rainmen announced yesterday the re-signing of forward Eric Crookshank and three-point ace Desmond Ferguson.

The duo joins point guard Taliek Brown, a newcomer who once starred for the 2004 NCAA champion Connecticut Huskies, as the players the Rainmen have signed for the upcoming Premier Basketball League campaign.

“You want to have some really good veterans and we’re excited to bring back two guys who were all-stars last year,” said owner Andre Levingston. “With the younger guys we’re looking to bring in, they’ll be able to help teach them.”

Ferguson, a one-time Portland Trail Blazer, was 74-of-173 from three-point range last season, averaging 16.6 points per game.

Crookshank has appeared in 62 games with the Rainmen and is the only player who has been around since the franchise’s first game. He averaged 14.5 points and 13 rebounds last season.

The Rainmen open training camp Nov. 23 and tentatively plan to hold it at Moncton Coliseum.
