Rapper Andre Johnson, who has performed with New York outfit the Wu-Tang Clan, is in critical condition after reportedly cutting off his own penis and leaping from a Los Angeles building.
Johnson, 40, who performs under the name Christ Bearer, was seriously injured in the incident, according to Los Angeles police, who responded to an emergency call about 1 a.m. Wednesday.
He was discovered outside an apartment building in North Hollywood after the fall from a second-story balcony and taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for treatment, CNN reported.
Two members of Northstar, a rap group working with Johnson, told TMZ the rapper cut off his penis without warning before jumping off the balcony.
The men raced downstairs to find him alive but screaming in agony at the roadside.
No drugs are believed to be involved. It was unclear whether doctors had attempted to reattach the rapper’s penis.
The bizarre incident took place just a day after Johnson released “Oooh!,” a new video featuring Rugged Monk. An album is scheduled for release on April 28, Johnson’s 41st birthday
Previously both Johnson and Northstar have worked with Rza, a founding member of the Wu-Tang Clan who also produced the group’s debut album.
However, Wu-Tang Clan members have played down the link.In a media statement, the New York hip-hop group displayed a picture of Johnson with a red line placed across him.
An expletive-laden statement advised that Johnson was not closely linked with the band.
