Does a green light make you speed up? If that’s the case you might want to pay attention to a new initiative the Calgary Police plan to implement this year.
The same cameras that grab red light runners will now be used to catch motorists speeding through a green.
“If you’re above the speed limit going through the green light, through the intersection, the cameras in the intersection will pick that up and then the offender could be ticketed,” Calgary Police Staff Sgt. Brett Marklund said. He expects the new program to help reduce collisions at intersections.
The so called speed On Green campaign is expected to be in the testing stages for the next few months with warning tickets being sent out instead of actual fines.
