Dozens ofmembers of Congress are calling on Attorney General Jeff Sessions to resign or recuse himself from investigations after reports surfaced that the former Alabama senator had two meetings with a Russian official ahead of President Donald Trump’s inauguration.

Twenty Democrats have called for the controversial top cop to step down from his post, while sevenRepublicans, 14Democrats and one Independentare urging Sessions to step aside from probes into Russian interference in the 2016 election.

Meanwhile, Sessions, a Republican, denied any wrongdoing in an interview withNBC News Thursday: “I have not met with any Russians at any time to discuss any political campaign, and those remarks are unbelievable to me and are false. And I don’t have anything else to say about that.”

He added that “whenever it’s appropriate” he will recuse himself.

In his Senate confirmation hearing, Sessions said he “did not have communications with the Russians” when asked if there was any evidence that anyone affiliated with the Trump campaign had communicated with Moscow.

Asked if he had any contact with the Russian government regarding the 2016 election, Sessions also responded “no.”
