The legendary Canadian rocker Neil Young has filed for divorce from his wife of 36 years.
Young, 68, filed papers to divorce Pegi in July, reports reveal.
Pegi provided backup vocals at many of Young's concerts and collaborated with Young on his music.
Singer, songwriter and guitarist Young met Pegi when she was working as a waitress in California at a diner near his ranch.
She inspired the lyrics of "Unknown Legend," a song on Young's classic 1972 album Harvest:
She used to work in a diner
Never saw a woman look finer
I used to order just to watch
Her float across the floor
Young filed the petition for dissolution of marriage in San Mateo, California on July 29, Rolling Stone reported.
An explanation for the split has not been reported.
A court date was set for Dec. 12.
Young's career included stints with Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Buffalo Springfield, and frequent collaborations with Crazy Horse.
In 1986, Pegi founded The Bridge School for children with disabilities, after encountering difficulty finding a school for son Ben Young, who has cerebral palsy.
An annual "Bridge Benefit" fundraiser concert organized by Neil and Pegi Young is held every October at the Shoreline Ampitheatre in Mountain View, California.
