The Route 29 Batman, who became an internet sensation three years ago after his run in with Montgomery County police, was killed Sunday night on a Maryland interstate.

Lenny B. Robinson, 51, was known for dressing up as Batman and driving his custom-made batmobile to visit kids in the hospital. On Sunday night, Robinson was struck by a car on Interstate 70 near Hagerstown, Md., after the vehicle broke down.

The Washington Post reported that Robinson was on his way home from a car show in West Virginia at the time of the accident.

In March 2012, police on Route 29 in Silver Spring pulled over Robinson, who was fully decked out in his Batman costume. His black Lamborghini had the Batman symbol on its license plate.
