A week ago Sharknado took over our television sets and our Twitter feeds. Whether you asked for it or not, everyone under the sun was tweeting about the shark-filled tornadoes in the appropriately named SyFy TV-movie.
It was officially announced today that Sharknado will live on with a sequel schedule for 2014. Capitalizing on the frenzy of the first movie, SyFYy is encouraging Twitter uses to name the sequel.
Fan can tweet their suggestions to @SyfyMovies using #Sharknado.
“Every once in a while, there is a perfect storm – on television,” Thomas Vitale, the executive vice president of programming and original ovies at SyFy said in a statement. “The fans are clamoring for a sequel. Or perhaps it will be a prequel. What we can guarantee is that Sharknado 2 will be lots of fun.”
He also said that more details will be announced soon.
According to Gothamist, the second film will bring the hungry sharks and Tara Reid to New York City – thought it will be filmed in Los Angeles’ studio The Asylum.
“I measure success by whether the audience enjoyed it,” Sharknado screenwriter Thunder Levin told Mashable. “We’re just trying to create entertainment here, so if people are happy and if they’re having fun with it, then I’d say it’s a success.”
