In his deep, smooth British accent, Hugh Dancy clears his throat and explains why he chose to get involved in the much-anticipated film Confessions of a Shopaholic.
“It always begins with the script, that goes without saying, but beyond that, it was the list of people that I would be working with,” said the 33-year-old up-and-comer.
The Jerry Bruckheimer flick features redhaired bombshell and funnywoman Isla Fisher and is directed by P.J. Hogan, two professionals Dancy jumped at the chance to work alongside.
The movie is based on Sophie Kinsella’s bestselling novel of the same name about journalist Rebecca Bloomwood’s (Fisher) struggle to keep her credit cards in her wallet.
His latest finished project, an independent film titled Adam which recently screened at the Sundance Independent Film Festival, is slated to be released later this year.
Where in Shopaholic he plays your basic, cute and funny romantic lead, his character in Adam is a whole different story. It’s a simple love story between a man and a woman living in a Manhattan apartment building who become involved.
But it’s complicated by the fact his character, Adam, has Asperger’s syndrome, a form of autism.
He’s obviously proud of the film but didn’t want to get too far ahead of himself and talk nominations or awards ceremonies.
“You have no idea with any movie, as you put it together, you can only go on your own tastes and hope it resonates with other people,” he said.
