#SmallBusinessSaturday is more than just a hashtag

The annual day encourages holiday shoppers to think outside the big box stores.

In between Black Friday madness and Cyber Monday’s online finds is Small Business Saturday.

Created in 2010 and originally sponsored by American Express, Small Business Saturday urges holiday shoppers to support their small brick-and-mortar local businesses.

According to AmEx, 95 million people shopped at such businesses last year, which resulted in $16 billion in sales, Grasshopper.com reported.
