Boris Diaw scored 22 points for the Suns, while Victoria’s Steve Nash had 11 points and just three assists.

Rockets 95 Jazz 69 — Tracy McGrady scored 29 points, as Houston staved off elimination with a romp over Utah in Game 5 of their opening-round series last night.

The win trims the Jazz lead in the best-of-seven series to 3-2, and forces a Game 6, set for Friday in Utah.

Hornets 99 Mavericks 94 — Chris Paul carried New Orleans into the second round of the playoffs for the first time in half a decade, scoring 24 points, handing out 15 assists and grabbing 11 rebounds to key a victory over Dallas in Game 5 of their opening-round series.

Pistons 98 Sixers 81 — Chauncey Billups recorded 21 points and 12 assists to lead Detroit to a convincing victory over Philadelphia last night, taking a 3-2 series lead in their first-round playoff series.

Detroit can advance to the second round with a win in Game 6 tomorrow in Philadelphia.
