Rap mogul Marion Suge Knight was shot multiple times early Sunday at a pre-VMAs party hosted by musical artist Chris Brown.
The Associated Press reported that Knight, 49, is expected to survive. Two other people were shot; a man and a woman.
The shooting happened around 1:30 a.m. at West Hollywood nightclub 1OAK, according to the Los Angeles County sheriff department.
Police are searching for the shooting suspect and say the club was at capacity at the time.
Knight, who founded the label Death Row Records, was also shot in 2005 at an MTV awards pre-party in Miami.
TMZ reports that investigators are focusing on gang rivalry as a motive.
