Suspect worked for councillors

A Vancouver man accused of sexually assaulting several young girls at knifepoint is a fine arts graduate from the University of B.C. and served as a political organizer for COPE.

Ibata Hexamer, 42, has been charged with attacking four girls — one as young as six — over a 15-year span.

Hexamer worked as a personal assistant to councillors Ellen Woodsworth, Tim Stevenson, Fred Bass and Tim Louis, according to a cached page on COPE’s website.

“I’m outraged at whoever committed these unspeakable acts,” Louis told Metro. “If it was (Hexamer) — we won’t know, of course, until a conviction — but if it was him I’m outraged at him personally.”

Louis said he hired Hexamer as an assistant between 2002 and 2005.

He said he wouldn’t discuss what Hexamer was like in his professional relationship because he didn’t want it misconstrued.

“I have just incredible compassion for the poor victims,” Louis said, “I’m very, very sorry for (them).”

According to the cached page, Hexamer was hired as a political organizer in 2005 and helped the organization in that November’s civic election.

He also worked on the 2005-2006 federal election campaign for the NDP’s Svend Robinson in Vancouver Centre.

According to the COPE website, Hexamer also runs rhythmnation.ca, an event production and DJ company based out of south Vancouver.
