Swiss ski racer Fabienne Suter injures knee

ST. MORITZ, Switzerland – Swiss skier Fabienne Suter has injured her right knee in a World Cup super-combined event and is likely to be sidelined for at least several weeks.

Suter took a cartwheeling fall when crashing between gates in her slalom run on Friday.

The Swiss ski team says Suter strained ligaments and doctors will decide in the next week if she needs surgery.

The 27-year-old speed specialist was having one of her most consistent seasons and is ninth in the overall standings behind American skier Lindsey Vonn, who won Friday’s event.

Suter won her fourth career World Cup event three weeks ago in a super-G at Bad Kleinkirchheim, Austria. She was runner-up to Vonn in a super-G last month at Beaver Creek, Colo.
