Tales of holiday shopping success

Last year, Corrine Loiselle saved her shopping until the last few days before Christmas. “Never again,” she said.

The gifts she had planned to buy were gone by the time she went to the mall, but felt it was her only option because her kids usually change their minds at the last minute.

“Well I got my shopping done, but it was a rush and you’re trying to figure out (what to get),” she said.

This year, she started and finished her Christmas shopping in the same week, and was at The Bay yesterday to help her mother shop.

Her secret is her Christmas list.

“I make a list and make a budget of how much I want to spend per person, and I go and find something I think they’re going to like.”

With so many shoppers like Loiselle who are either finished or nearly finished their last purchases, a couple of them offered their game plans for stress-free shopping.

Alisa Kuzmina started her shopping with a trip to Syracuse two weeks ago to buy some clothes and said it was worth the trip.

“I bought mostly clothing, stuff we would never have here,” she said.

“They have a lot more imported stuff or international stuff you couldn’t get here.”

Elizabeth Punnett has to travel to British Columbia for Christmas. Instead of lugging all of her gifts across Canada, she buys half of them in Ottawa and buys the rest on Boxing Day.

Buying gifts after Christmas, she said, saves her some stress.
