Three in custody as police probe latest murder

Three men are in custody in connection with what police are now calling the tenth homicide of the year.

An autopsy conducted Tuesday determined that Yazden Ghiasvand Ghiasi, 16, died as a result of a gunshot wound.

The community was left stunned after the injured teen was dumped from a car on a Booth Street sidewalk just before 10:30 a.m. Monday and left to die.

Ghiasi was a student at Notre Dame High School. A spokeswoman from the Ottawa Catholic School Board said crisis counsellors and chaplaincy support will be available in the school this week.

“Our community has suffered a devastating loss,” said school board spokeswoman Mardi de Kemp. “Our prayers go out to his family and friends at this most difficult time.”

The three men in custody have not yet been charged and the police investigation is ongoing.
