Toasting a medal with a mighty Molson

Some winning athletes get handed a bottle of champagne, but Canadian medallists are receiving a bottle of beer — and they’re not your average 12-ounce.

At Molson Canadian Hockey House, Canada’s top athletes are being given what the beer company calls a Jeroboam of Molson Canadian.

The Jeroboam is a three-litre jug, shaped like an oversized champagne bottle. It could probably even pose a challenge for Jon Montgomery — who has become known for chugging a pitcher of beer after his skeleton win at Whistler Village.

Montgomery, along with Maëlle Ricker, Mike Robertson and Alexandre Bilodeau have already received their rare bottles, which are not for sale to the public. Each Canadian to reach the podium finish will receive a bottle signed by seventh-generation Molson family member Geoff Molson.
