Toronto police release security footage, images of missing 17-year-old

TORONTO – Toronto police have released security camera footage and still images of a missing Toronto teen taken the day before she disappeared.

Mariam Makhniashvili, 17, was last seen Sept. 14 outside her high school, Forest Hill Collegiate Institute. The images show the girl and her brother at Toronto’s transportation hub, Union Station, on their way to volunteer at a dragon boat race event.

The girl’s father maintains that Mariam’s volunteer shift at the event the day before she vanished did not contribute to her disappearance.

Mariam and George were part of a group of 10 immigrant youth in the YMCA’s newcomer youth leadership development program.

The two siblings had just arrived in Canada in June from their native Republic of Georgia after a five-year absence from their parents, who had lived in Los Angeles while her father worked a research job.
