Triathlete to discuss plant-based nutrition

A Canadian-born vegan professional triathlete will be in Ottawa today through Saturday to talk about how plant-based nutrition can reduce stress and improve athletic performance.

A Canadian-born vegan professional triathlete will be in Ottawa today through Saturday to talk about how plant-based nutrition can reduce stress and improve athletic performance.

Brendan Brazier went vegan at 15 to become a better athlete.

“I wanted to make a career out of being an athlete and doing triathlons, so I tried different ways of eating,” he said.

Now 35, the Vancouver native is a two-time Canadian ultramarathon champion (2003 and 2006). He competed in the Ironman triathlon for seven years, consistently placing in the top 10.
“A lot more people are realizing the benefits of a plant-based diet,” he said. “It’s much more common than it used to be in 1990.”

The author of bestselling books Thrive Diet and Thrive Fitness will be discussing the benefits of plant-based diets at the Natural Food Pantry on Riverside Drive today, Market Organics on York Street tomorrow and at Rainbow Foods on Richmond Road Saturday.
