Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump holding hands while running through Times Square, breaking bread together (or soft pretzel, rather), three days before the election? Only in a fever dream.

Saturday Night Live provided some much needed comic relief from election tension on the Nov. 5 show when Alec Baldwin as Trump, and Kate McKinnon as Clinton, broke character and ran out of the studio into the streets of New York where they frolicked, took selfies, and rode upon each other’s backs while eating cotton candy.

Before dropping their personas the two did some of the sparring typical of their shticks for this election year.

“Is it me or does it seem like the FBI is trying to get Trump elected,” mused McKinnon as Clinton, as an FBI agent comes through asking if Trump would like a cup of coffee.

“No thanks, sweetie,” said Trump as he promptly landed a kiss on the FBI agent’s lips.

Trump repeated his friendly kissing with other “sweeties” — Vladimir Putin and a hooded Ku Klux Klan member.

Then the jig was up.

“I just feel gross all the time,” Baldwin said on stage, reflecting on his time impersonating Trump.

“We can’t tell you who to vote for, but on Tuesday we all get a chance to choose what kind of country we want to live in,” McKinnon said.

“None of this will have mattered if you don’t vote,” Baldwin said after returning to the stage.
