The Vatican has banned American Catholics from confessing via an iPhone app, which was sanctioned by the church in the U.S.
A Vatican spokesman said digital confession could never take the place of admitting to sins to a priest in the flesh.
“One cannot speak in any way of confessing via iPhone,” the spokesman said.
The app, Confession, takes believers through the sacrament and claims to offer a “personalized examination of conscience for each user.”
It is thought to be the first app of its type approved by a church authority.
