An impassioned Rick Mercer took to his rant soapbox last night to declare it's no longer good enough to promise gay teens that it gets better, but that "we have to make it better now."
Discussing the recent suicide of Ontario teen Jamie Hubley, Mercer says "We know exactly what's going to happen next. Grief counsellors will go into the school, as they should. But what about the old-fashioned assembly, you know, where the cops show up and there's hell to pay and they find out who is responsible...like when the lunch room is vandalized."
The CBC personality ends his rant with a call for everybody, but notably gay public figures, to step up to the plate because, as he puts it, "adults don't need role models, kids do."
