VIDEO: Teen boy suspended for wearing purse to school

A 13-year-old Kansas boy is making national headlines after he was suspended for wearing a purse to school.

Skylar Davis told KCTV 5 News that he has been wearing his Vera Bradley cross-body bag to Anderson County Senior-Junior School every day for months. He was only recently called to the assistant principal’s office and told he had to take it off.

When he refused, he was suspended.

“It expresses myself,” David said about the purse. “I think everyone else can wear it, so I can wear it as well.”

The boy’s mom, Leslie Willis, was so surprised that she called the school to verify what led to the suspension. It was, in fact, because he refused to take off the purse.

“Nothing more to it,” she said.

School officials have not responded to the news station’s requests for comment.
