VIDEO: Villarrica volcano erupts in Chile, 3,000 people evacuated

Chile woke up early Tuesday morning to the explosive sound and sight of the Villarrica volcano erupting.

The BBC reports that the volcano, which is a popular hiking destination has been spewing ash and lava as high as 3,000 feet.
Residents in the vicinity of the volcano have been evacuated with the BBC reporting numbers of at least 3,000.
The volcanos last major eruption was in 1985.
