Voter turnout widely exceeds 2007 figures

Calgarians flocked to the polls yesterday producing higher than normal voting numbers and slowing down the city’s website.

As of noon, the city reported a total voter turnout of 39,657, including numbers from all but six voting stations. This number was up more than 13,000 from the 2007 election.

By 4 p.m., 137,649 people representing 26.3 per cent of eligible voters had cast a ballot at 241 voting stations.

Traffic on the city’s website was also higher than normal resulting in longer wait times for pages to load, according to release.
