Washington is a capital with class

Washington, D.C., is the beating heart of American politics, which makes it a fascinating place to visit. Luckily, it also has some of the world’s best hotels and restaurants.

Here’s how to visit it on a budget.

Beacon Bar & Grill

Supercool eatery based on 1930s ocean liner with rooftop Martini Sky-Bar with great city views. The menu, like Saturday nights lobster/crab fest at $28 seems ridiculously good value.

Cityzen
Award-winning chef Eric Ziebold cooks up modern American with the best of them.
Throw in the D.C. cool set and a fiendishly clever wine list — its hard not to be impressed.

The Allen Lee
We looked. There aren’t any hotels available for less than $50 a night. But, look, this is the political capital of the world and hotels aren’t cheap — even this one charges more than $75 a night and the online reviews are, well, mixed to say the least.

The Melrose Hotel
Nice real American hotel with a quality feel to it. Rooms are big and airy and the bar and restaurant are great for people watching.
