Weather dampens oval’s first full day

It was the first full day the Canada Games oval was open to the public and it turned out to be a wash.

Yesterday’s wet weather forced the closure of the oval to public skates. The closure came less than a day after about 200 people came out for its grand opening on Monday night at the North Common.

The oval will be HRM’s marquee venue for the 2011 Canada Winter Games, taking place from Feb. 11 to 27.

Right up until the opening of the games, the oval will host up to four public skating sessions a day, seven days a week. It’s unknown whether the oval will be open today.
