Bronze medalist breaks medal in shower
Brazilian Felipe Kitadi was so proud of his judo medal that he couldn’t bear to be away from it, not even in the shower.
But when he took it off to avoid the bronze getting wet,the medal dropped to the floor and broke!
Kitadai had the Brazilian Olympic Committee request a new medal on his behalf. The IOC approved the request and granted the men’s 60kg judo bronze medal winner a new bronze medal. Each bronze medal is worth about $5.
Maybe this time he’ll be more careful.
Swimmers gorge on McDonald’s
McDonald’s is the official food sponsor of the Olympics, which means athletes eat for free inside the Villages.
Most don’t, but American swimmers Ricky Berens and Conor Dwyer couldn’t help themselves after soundly winning gold in the mens 4×200 relay.
“It was pretty bad,” Dwyer said. “A couple quarter pounders, McFlurries, fries.”
Berens tweeted a picture of their feast, which included Big Macs.
“We eat so healthy all the time, so I felt pretty gross after that,” Berens said.
“I still feel bad this morning,” added Dwyer.
Lochte wasn’t there. He was probably off having one night stands…at least that’s what his mother says.
Rockies don’t realize the inning is over
The Colorado Rockies players are probably waiting excitedly for this season to just disappear, but who knew things had gotten this bad?
Carlos Torres struck out a Reds player for the third out of the fifth inning….but all nine Rockies players held the field.
None realized the inning had ended. The commentator seems totally perplexed.
Man arrested sneaking meth on a plane, in candy bars
A California man is facing federal drug charges after allegedly trying to smuggle huge amounts of methamphetamine to Japan in what looked like Snickers bars.
34-year-old Rogelio Maruicio Harris of Long Beach was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport after agents conducting bag checks found dozens of Snickers, filled with more than 4 pounds of methamphetamine. (Dipped in chocolate, of course.)
He faces at least 10 years in prison if convicted.
Ontario home bursting with bees
Honey leaking from the ceiling led one woman to discover 80,000 bees inside her home.
Loretta Yates says she knew she had trouble when a crack in the ceiling started oozing honey. She and her husband began investigating, and found the bees nesting in two colonies in the first floor ceiling of their Varney, Ontario home.
Kevin Yates admits that it wasn’t the first time he’d seen the bees. He described a “blanket of bees” hovering in a thick swarm outside the kitchen door last week. They couldn’t get in, he told the Montreal Gazette, because the ceiling was already full.
Yeates says it didn’t take more than a week for honey to drip from new cracks in the kitchen and living room ceilings, and the sweet liquid even blew a lightbulb after half-filling it with honey.
Insurance wouldn’t cover the mess, and exterminators couldn’t promise a permanent solution, so the couple called in a beekeeper.
For a price tag of about $1,500 and 6 hours of work, the keeper and his colleagues recovered more than 100 kilograms of honeycomb.
They’ll make it into candles.
Wrong baby buried after stillborn mix-up
A grieving Brooklyn couple is looking to exhume the body of a stillborn child — they now believe is not their own.
Justyna and Rafal Sliwa brought their unborn child to be buried in their native Poland.
But after receiving a letter from the city Medical Examiner’s Office saying the baby is not theirs, they’re looking to exhume it and return the body to the US.
A spokeswoman for the ME’s office says the two stillborns had “strikingly similar” names, and that a full investigation will be launched to find out how the mix-up occurred.
