White Cowbell Oklahoma Avenue?

Loud guitars. Lewd dancers. Chainsaws. Just another Saturday for White Cowbell Oklahoma.

The Ontario rock outfit brings its brash, over-the-top rock extravaganza to the Pawn Shop on Whyte Avenue this Saturday, and promises the city may never be the same afterward.

“It’ll just be a giant, smoking crater where Edmonton once was,” explained Clem C. Clemsen, lead guitarist.

“They are gonna rename Whyte Ave. ‘White Cowbell Oklahoma Ave.’”

Joined by bandmates Dingo von Devereaux on drums, Hollis and the Cousin Who Has No Name on guitars, Bubba Lee Fett on bass and the erstwhile Chainsaw Charlie employing various implements of destruction, the group is touring to promote 2009’s Bombardero, their third release.

Clemsen says the new release is a lot more psychedelic and just plain weirder than the band’s previous fare.

Known for their wild live shows, Clemsen isn’t too worried about crowds getting unruly. Past shows have seen jello wrestling, stuffed animals being disembowelled with chainsaws and a salty take on Santa Claus for a Christmas show.

The band’s live shows over the last decade have become the stuff of legend across the country.

“If anyone tries to cause trouble, we have the 1980 women’s East German biathlon team doing security,” he said.

Maintaining an Olympic theme, Clemsen says the concert will be a reason for locals to forsake team Canada to watch some national champions in a different discipline.

“We’ve got the gold for moral destruction,” Clemsen said. “This is the Olympics; the world is watching.”

White Cowbell Oklahoma plays the Pawn Shop Saturday night, with special guests Give ‘em Hell Boys and The Preying Saints.
