Wintersleep added to the bill for Paul McCartney concert

Make that two Halifax bands now set to rock it out at Sir Paul McCartney’s show next month at the Halifax Common.

Wintersleep, the 2008 Juno award-winning rock band, is the second opening act named for McCartney’s July 11 performance. Wintersleep joins Halifax’s Joel Plaskett Emergency, confirmed as an opening act last week.

“This is real big news for them,” Diane Campbell, mother of Wintersleep band member Loel Campbell, told the New Glasgow News. “It’s a real big deal for them.”

Metro Halifax reported earlier this month that show promoter Harold MacKay, president of Power Promotional Events, was sending tapes of Canadian bands to McCartney, who was is said to be picking his own opening acts.

There’s no word on other opening acts, and if they’ve been decided upon.

Wintersleep has released three albums, the most recent of which was Welcome to the Night Sky in 2007. That album led to the juno for new group of the year in 2008.
